Tang Hall Centenary Street Party
The Tang Hall Centenary Party finally happened, on Saturday 18th June the weather almost smiled and a street party was held on Fifth Avenue. The idea came to local resident Bernie Oxberry when she was reading the book ‘East of York’ by Jane Burrows and the realisation that 2021 was Tang Hall’s Centenary year,
‘Covid put paid to celebrating in 2021, but I was determined to mark the occasion as soon as we could. A lot of people pulled together to make it happen, Anna Hunter, Project Lead Tang Hall Big Local, Sarah Bentham & Kelly Baldacchino Mark Draper & the trainees from Blueberry Academy, Sue Shooter & North Yorkshire Youth and Alan Gibson local resident and creative genius.
Marks & Spencer, Barnitts, Style Carpets, Morrisons, Thomas The Baker, The Apple Cakery and B&Q donated everything from bunting to bulbs, carpet tiles to sandwiches.
The lovely members of “Minster Ukulele” offered to play at the event, and did so beautifully, giving out song sheets so there was community singing, magical!
Children played on the street with the toys, (including a football game) and party goers mingled, ate, chatted, and sang.’
