Roman Pottery Day

09:30–17:00 26 August 2017 – by Tang Hall Big Local Archaeology

Come, have a go, and explore Tang Hall’s Roman past in this special event.

Join Graham Taylor from the BBC’s Great Pottery Throw Down to create replica pots using the methods used by the Romans in Tang Hall 2000 years ago. In the course of the workshop you will use experimental archaeology techniques to find out how the Roman potters worked and produced the pots that have survived for 2000 years.

The pots will be taken away to be fired at the end of the day before they are returned to York for exhibition in our DIG attraction later this year.

JORVIK Group staff will be on hand throughout the day with displays and handling collections. Learn more about the history of Tang Hall through the archaeological evidence found in the area.

Three workshops are available during the day and pre-booking is essential through www.thejorvikgroup.com/tickets
